Video: "NEW Hermex Makes Hermes 10X Better on Mobile" by Julian Goldie on YouTube.
What Hermex does and what it does not
The name blends Hermes and mobile - and the scope is deliberately narrow. Hermex is not a version of Hermes that runs on your phone. The full agent, with its tool calls, memory system, and model access, continues to run wherever you already have it set up. What Hermex adds is a clean iOS interface that connects to that running instance and gives you visibility and control without needing to open a terminal or sit at your desk.
The distinction matters because it means Hermex is not asking your phone to do anything computationally heavy. Battery usage stays low. Connection drops do not kill a running job. Your phone is the interface, and the agent keeps working whether or not you are watching.
How the control plane architecture works
When Goldie describes Hermex as making your iPhone "the control plane, not the compute plane", he means the app communicates with your Hermes instance directly - there is no cloud intermediary between your phone and your agent. Nothing routes through Hermex's servers. The traffic stays between the device and wherever Hermes runs on your own infrastructure.
This is the same approach as using SSH to manage a remote server from a laptop: the client is thin, the work stays on the host. It also means the privacy properties are exactly those of your own Hermes setup. Hermex adds zero telemetry: no analytics, no tracking, no usage data sent anywhere.
What you can control from the app
The feature set covers the decisions you actually need to make mid-session. From Hermex you can switch the model Hermes is using - useful if a task has changed scope and a lighter or heavier model makes more sense. You can adjust the reasoning effort setting, which controls how much the model deliberates before responding. You can switch workspaces and profiles without restarting the session.
The live view streams the model's thinking process and tool calls as they happen, which gives you enough context to judge whether a long-running job is on track. If it has gone in the wrong direction, you can steer it - adjusting the task description mid-run - or stop it entirely. That ability to intervene without being at a keyboard is the practical value: you can set a job running, check in from a phone, and correct course before it completes a large amount of wasted work.
Free, native, no strings
Hermex is a native SwiftUI app requiring iOS 18 or later. It is free. There is no premium tier, no subscription, and no in-app purchase. The build uses no third-party analytics SDKs and sends no data outside your own network.
For anyone already running Hermes, the cost of trying Hermex is effectively zero. The main requirement is that your Hermes instance is accessible from your phone's network - local network or via a proper tunnel if you want to reach it remotely. Goldie's video walks through the setup in full.
Where this connects to NordSys
If you are running Hermes Agent - or thinking about it - the ability to monitor and steer work from a phone changes how you can structure longer jobs. Tasks that once required staying near a machine become something you can start before leaving the office and check on remotely. Our AI Agents service sets up and manages Hermes-based agent stacks for businesses: the right models, the right tools, the right workflows. Hermex is one part of making that practical on a day-to-day basis.
